update schedule

From: David Swagler <[email protected]>
Date: Tue, 6 Jul 1999 10:06:06 -0700 (PDT)
Mikko,
Do you have any schedule in mind for updates/new
version? One change I would like to see is support
for more voices, say eight. There are some
scripts/specs for hemi-sync that call for as many as
six voices.
Is there a way to combine more than one voice and
paste it in such a way as to simulate more voices?

A new version of BrainWave Generator is currently being developed, but
no release date has been decided yet. Probably late this year.
The new version will have some more parameters, but NOT more voices.
The main reason for this is the reduction of volume range as the number
of voices is increased. For example, with 8 bit sound, sound sample values
for one voice would vary only from -16 to +15. This would result in poor
sound quality.
However, the new version will have a possibility to specify the waveform
of the output as a function of time. With different waveforms than sine,
there are always harmonics present, and thus they can be counted as
additional "voices". I think this will allow the desired increase in
script complexity.

Not in BrainWave Generator. Of course, you could create several presets,
play them into .wav files, and then combine the .wav files in a sound
editor.

I neglected to save the post where you described how
to output as a .wav file. I'd like to be able to do
that. I want to burn a CD with all my presets.
Thanks for the speedy response.

I'm thinking of registering, but the major limitationt that keeps me from
doing it is that WAV output is limited to 600 seconds. A lot of sessions
go longer than this, and I'd like to be able to burn trance/meditation
CDs. How about an unlimited output feature in the next ver?

I have registered my copy and I don't see any
limitation on the length of the .wav file. You might
register your copy and remove any limitation.

Versions prior to 2.0.8 had the length limited to 600 seconds (10 minutes).
(And you had to do some Registry modification to get the feature available.)
In version 2.0.8, the limit is 3600 seconds (60 minutes), which should
be enough for all purposes. The limit is same for registered and
unregistered users.

Hi,
I am new to the list and discovered this program recently in an
obsessive search on sound. I use sound with my work with children with
intellectual disabilities,
though I use speech sounds rather than electronic sounds. I have found in
this program, quite a respite from stress and I do enjoy the relaxed state
(I am an Australian). In browsing the archives I noticed several presets in
code, my question is ,how is it possible to turn these into importable
presets for bwgen. If anyone could answer this I would appreciate it very
much. Could it be in easy steps as I have tried copy and paste to notepad
then save as .bwg but I keep getting messages saying that I may have an
older version or the file is corrupt. I think it is me doing something wrong
like copying the wrong bit or some such thing. I hope some kind person can
help.

Did you check the Presets section on http://www.bwgen.com ? You might
find the preset you are looking for there. The presets sent as mail
to the mailing are stored in MIME format, and should be converted
from MIME to binary before they can be used. A separate application
for this conversion is required. If you decide to try the conversion
this way (will be quite difficult), you can start looking for a MIME
converter at http://www.winfiles.com.

I have read Tomatis's life story and was really amazed with the work he has
accomplished . I thought that one needed really complex
Hardware etc. I have since discovered sites which are selling CD's ,Mozart
effect, Silent effect, etc. I only recently found these sites and have
been considering making a purchase for my school. Do you know if the CD's
are an OK way to achieve the results that Tomatis expected.
I have so far only found sites in USA but am looking for an Australian
supplier. Can anyone help there?

Some say that for sound therapy the recording must be done in analog tapes,
because of the high frequencies. I know the tapes from Sound Therapy, Lund,
Canada are recorded this way.

I have found this with a search engine:

Electrocrystal Therapy. Somatic Psychotherapy. HEARS. A huge
range of Books and Sound Recordings..

Maybe in www.tomatis.net there are links to australian places.
Also, see the other post I made recently.
Sound Therapy, Lund, B.C Canada Fax: 604 483-9581. They sell the tapes, a
video
about sound therapy in Australia and a  machine called Sound Therapy Converter
and a Vice Converted (they convert any music or voice to sound therapy. $795,
$295))
Please note I have no reference about the effectiveness of these techniques.

Maybe in www.tomatis.net there are links to Australian places.
Also, see the other post I made recently.
Sound Therapy, Lund, B.C Canada Fax: 604 483-9581. They sell the tapes, a
video
about sound therapy in Australia and a  machine called Sound Therapy
Converter
and a Vice Converted (they convert any music or voice to sound therapy.
$795,
$295))
Please note I have no reference about the effectiveness of these techniques.

Thank You Daniel
It is quite amazing that through your kindness in answering my request
,by following the links , I have found a Tomatis Centre about 5 minutes away
from where I live. I didn't know about it ! It's truly amazing , this list
and the people who selflessly help each other out . Thank you all and I hope
I am able to do the same for someone one day.
Paul

In What way could analogue tapes be better or more effective than CD????

high quality analog tapes will always outdo digital tapes due to
limitations of the medium. digital media (Sampled at 44100khz) can only
achieve half that in frequency, 22050Hz. analog media are theoretically
infinite.

They say analog tapes preserve high frequencies.
It is not the first time I hear that. Also some audiophiles prefer analog
recordings.
As I do not have technical knowledge I can not give more details, sorry.

It may be of interest that Michael Hutchison's Megabrain tapes/CDs use the
Tomatis effect, as well as various other psychoacoustic techniques. I
personally like these recordings very much, they are quite expensive, but
worth the outlay in my opinion..

Sound Therapy / The Sound Assistant software

From: "Raul Vergini, MD" <[email protected]>
Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 13:07:19 +0200
Hi,
does someone knows anything about a software called "The Sound Assistant"
by Dan Kunkel (Bellevue, WA - webpage:
http://www.halcyon.com/www3/oneness/index.html ) used to make a sound
therapy on the lines of Sharry Edwards' Bioacoustics (
www.frognet.net/biosound )? The software analyzes the voice spectrum,
finding the frequencies that are missing in the voice, and then a treatment
is done by giving to the patients (through a programmable "tone-box" where
these sounds are registered) the frequencies that his voice miss to
normalize the voice pattern and giving healing inputs to the body). It is
also used to diagnose nutritional deficiencies, toxicities, etc.
It seems very interesting.
